Academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering and an expert in oil and gas storage and transportation engineering. Formerly served as Chief Engineer and Vice President of PetroChina Company Limited. Currently serves as Chair of the China Natural Gas Standardization Technology Committee and Honorary Chair of the Oil & Gas Storage and Transportation Committee of the Chinese Petroleum Society. He has long been engaged in the design, planning, construction, and operational management of oil and gas storage and transportation projects, and has led key technology research and engineering management for several major national pipelines, including the West–East Gas Pipeline project.

He has long been engaged in research and management of oil and gas exploration and development technologies. He has led numerous national and provincial-level scientific and technological projects and major engineering initiatives, contributed to the discovery of the Surige world-class supergiant gas field, and developed a series of technologies and management models for effective shale gas development at depths shallower than 3,500 meters. He also led the compilation of China’s Underground Natural Gas Storage Facilities, providing important theoretical and technical guidance for the construction of underground gas storage in China.

Currently serves as Deputy Chief Geologist of PetroChina Company Limited and Party Secretary of PetroChina Exploration & Production Research Institute, Chief Geologist of the Oil & Gas and New Energy Company, Chair of the National Key Laboratory for Enhanced Oil Recovery, Director of the National Energy Underground Storage R&D Center, and Editor-in-Chief of Petroleum Exploration and Development. Previously, he held positions including Deputy General Manager of PetroChina Exploration & Production Branch, Deputy Commander of the Junggar Basin Exploration & Development Command, General Manager of Qinghai Oilfield Company, and Director of the Group’s Comprehensive Management Department (Office of the Party Committee / Board Office).
He has long been engaged in conventional and unconventional oil and gas geological theory, engineering technology innovation, and production practice. He led the establishment of a theoretical and technical system for gravel oil reservoir exploration in the Mahu Sag, Xinjiang, and pioneered shale oil reserve evaluation methods, coalbed gas characterization, comprehensive coal-derived oil and gas system studies, and the “One Whole, Six Transformations” engineering methodology. His work has provided key theoretical and technical support for the exploration and development of complex reservoirs such as gravel, shale, and coal in China. He has received one First-Class National Science and Technology Progress Award and eight provincial or ministerial-level scientific awards, as well as the 4th Outstanding Engineer Award and the 30th Sun Yueqi Energy Award. He holds 19 authorized invention patents, has published over 50 papers, and authored six monographs.
